But experts say controlled substances such as Xanax can be addictive, and when mixed with other drugs, they can be deadly.Xanax is prescribed to people with anxiety, panic attacks, and depression related anxiety. According to the Centers for Disease Control, we’re slowly losing our ability to fight gonorrhea, a common sexually transmitted disease. Increasingly, gonorrhea is proving resistant to even the strongest forms of antibiotics. That means we may not be far from a time where some cases of gonorrhea can’t be treated. “During the past three years, the wily gonococcus has become less susceptible to our last line of antimicrobial defense, threatening our ability to cure gonorrhea,” warns Gail Bolan, director of the CDC’s sexually transmitted disease prevention program. Teen Pregnancies Hit New Low, But Disparities Remain

The rate of pregnancy among teens has dropped.

Teen pregnancies are at their lowest rate in nearly 40 years, according to the latest data from the Guttmacher Institute, a research organization focused on sexual and reproductive health.

If you have never gotten a mammogram, you may be a little anxious about the process. Here is what it is like and what you can expect during your first mammogram.

I remember the first time that I got a mammogram. It was an interesting experience and I wished I had known a little more about the process before I had to get one done. Then again, I am the kind of person who grills the oral surgeon for all of the gruesome details about how exactly he plans on extracting my embedded wisdom tooth.

Don’t worry, it isn’t that bad.

When you arrive for your mammogram and are all checked it, you will usually be taken into a changing area, where you will need to undress from the waist up, including your bra or other underwear.

Migration in India Spreading HIV Epidemic

Migration is fuelling India’s HIV epidemic. National AIDS Control Organisation’s latest figures show that besides high risk populations like sex workers, the highest burden of HIV is among migrants – 3.6%, which is 10 times the HIV prevalence among the general population.

With migration rates increasing, the prevalence will only get worse. According to the 2001 census, 30.1% of the population was considered to have migrated (314 million) – a considerable increase from 27.4% in 1991. NACO has, therefore, identified 108 railway stations – which are both source and destination of migrants travelling in search of work. Find more…

Counterfeit anti-malaria drugs are being distributed throughout Africa to the extent that the lives of millions of people could be endangered. A report from the Wellcome Trust has revealed that low quality derivations of reputable anti-malarial drugs are being distributed throughout he African continent. The drugs are of such poor quality that there is an additional risk that some of the circulating drugs could actually encourage malarial drug reissuance. SALT LAKE CITY -Tanning beds are in the cross- hairs in the upcoming legislation session. Utah Senator, Patricia Jones, – Holladay, is drafting a bill that would ban minors from using them. The idea isnt creating a warm glow for people who enjoy tanning. Che Geyer says she thinks the law passed five year ago goes far enough. “I don’t see a problem with it.” Geyer likes tanning and says she would allow her own children to do it, just like her mother did. “My mom always signed off on mine, so I was able to tan, I mean it was good for me, but if you are under the age of eighteen you are still under your parents supervision and I think the old law is sufficient.”That Utah law was also passed through the efforts of Senator Jones. Texas Asks Feds To Delay Health Insurance Rebate Plan

Starting in 2012, health insurance plans in Texas — and most of the rest of the country — may have to cough up millions of dollars in rebates to customers.

The rebates will come from health plans that spend too much on administrative costs instead of medical care. The change is part of the national health overhaul law, the Affordable Care Act.
