How I Cleared My Cystic Acne Naturally

It was a long road! But after four turbulent years I believe I now finally have a grip on my cystic acne. No longer do I fumble in the dark, trying everything I can get my hands on. Over the years I kept a journal of my food intake, my cysts, and my findings. I experimented with countless things in order to get to this point. I did so much reading and research it was practically a part time job. High on Health helped guide me, and with many of her suggestions I devised a method that has kept me cyst free. I became the manager of my health, working to keep all of the essential areas in check: strengthening the immune system, balancing hormones, controlling inflammation, and leveling stress.

I deduced that my cystic acne was hormone related. Each individual case of acne may be caused by a different underlying internal imbalance. The first step is to determine what your main cause likely is. Five major underlying imbalances I have come across are-

  • Gastrointestinal
  • Allergies
  • Hormones
  • Candida
  • Cosmetic or an imbalance in the surface of the skin (in less serious cases)

Fran explores this topic of acne causes here.

Being female, my acne symptoms were common for unbalanced hormones: often cystic, and in the areas of the chin and jawline (I do not take medications or use any conventional face or body products that could trigger acne).

In order to start with a clean slate, I eliminated many foods from my diet. This can help rule out any Gastrointestinal, candida, and allergy related imbalances. I was already eating no meat or dairy so I amped up my fruit and vegetable intake and cut out wheat, gluten, processed sugar, fried foods, chips and coffee (I switched to herbal tea). I eat a lot of raw fruits and salads, some cooked vegetables, and brown rice, quinoa or millet. The diet was not always perfect, but when it was consistent I did notice a difference in my skin. By having a clean diet, my body was able to focus on those imbalances that it wasnt tackling when it was busy with intestinal work. An added intestinal cleanser is this intestinal drawing formula.

While maintaining this diet, I found the best topical solutions for my cysts: turmeric mixed with aloe vera gel, bentonite healing clay, and colloidal silver gel. I rotated between these three topicals which I put directly on each cyst overnight.

As soon as I felt the onset of a cyst I took turmeric internally. If you take turmeric internally, be sure to take it with some fat because this allows it to be more easily assimilated. I usually took it with a meal, or mixed it with flax seed oil or coconut oil. While I used to get multiple cysts for 3-4 weeks out of every month, I began to see the number of cysts decline to only one or two every other month, and last only 1-2 weeks out of the month.

I found that the topical solution alone was not enough to end my cysts. This happened gradually, after finding the right mix of what I call my medicine: maca, flax oil, and probiotics. I drink this mix daily in a fruit and vegetable smoothie. Ive seen a huge difference especially when consistently taking maca. Be sure to read Frans posts on maca before you take it.

My cysts have been reduced to almost none per month. I still take every caution to keep them at bay. The final touch was when I stopped washing my face with tap water. This helped balance oil production on my face, and really kicked my skin into high health. Most tap water leaves mineral deposits on the skin and can be too harsh. I now use only jojoba oil with a soft washcloth (see this thread). I use only distilled water if I feel the need to rinse or exfoliate more. I also found it important to give up my mineral makeup as much as possible to let my skin breathe, drink plenty of water throughout the day, take vitamins and herbs that keep my immune system strong, and take trace minerals.

Once my cysts became few and far apart, my focus turned to healing the scars. This is something I am still working on. Frans discussion on scarring led me to MSM and ormus gold, and they have become my go-to products. While I have no active cysts, I massage more mild topicals into my skin such as pure coconut oil or aloe vera gel.

I think it is crucial for me to maintain positive mental health as well. A day of anger or stress may be the trigger for a cyst. I find that when I am happy, care free, stress free, and accepting of myself, I have little or no acne. This is usually when I am on vacation. But instead of viewing the feeling as Ill only be fully happy one day when on vacation again, I try to create that feeling in myself every day. The less I worry about my appearance, and the more I accept myself, the happier I am. One of my journal entries describes my visual meditation:

Be in the moment. Manage the moment. Be in the moment where you feel the best. Imagine where you are when you are happy, bright, clear headed; with clear skin and a clear slate- The person that you want to be. Believe that you are that person ALREADY! That person is free and healthy, and YOU ARE HER.
